NextImg:Jasmine Crockett slammed for dubbing Greg Abbott ‘Governor Hot Wheels’

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) decided to mock Gov. Greg Abbott‘s (R-TX) disability by giving him the nickname “Governor Hot Wheels.”

Abbott is going on 10 years in the governor’s office and has used a wheelchair for about 40 years. He was a recent law school graduate out on a run in 1984 when a tree fell on him and paralyzed him from the waist down.

Crockett, who is in her second term in Congress, appeared at a Human Rights Campaign fundraising event Saturday in Los Angeles. The representative was behind the podium when she unveiled the nickname.

“We in these ho- a** Texas streets, honey,” Crockett said. “Y’all know we got Governor Hot Wheels down there. Come on now! And the only thing hot about him is that he’s a hot-a*** mess, honey. Yes, yes, yes, yes.”

The Washington Examiner reached out to Abbott’s office and the HRC for comment.

The fundraiser for the Human Rights Campaign went toward the civil rights organization’s mission for the LGBT community. According to the HRC, 36% of the community suffers some sort of disability, including 10% who suffer a mobility disability.

“LGBTQ+ people are more likely to be disabled than non-LGBTQ+ people,” the HRC website reads. “The duality of their identities as LGBTQ+ and disabled increases the amount of discrimination and bias they face in their daily lives, at school, at the doctors, or at work.”

Crockett’s nickname was not included in the press release from the event. She was one of three politicians in attendance, including Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D-IL).

Another page on the HRC website calls to “harness the power of ALL people and get them to the polls” in an article on eligible voters with disabilities. Over 15.8 million people with disabilities voted in the 2024 election.

A clip of Crockett’s comments has been shared via several accounts and received millions of views as of Tuesday. Many swarmed to react to the clip.

“I don’t use this word often, but Jasmine Crockett truly is wicked,” activist Scott Presler captioned the video. “To call Greg Abbott ‘Governor Hot Wheels’ is cruel, contemptible & speaks to your lack of character. … If Jasmine Crockett represents the democrat party, I want nothing to do with democrats. Despicable.”

“Jasmine Crockett continues to embarrass herself, the state of Texas, and the US Congress by referring to Governor Greg Abbott as ‘Governor Hot Wheels,'” media personality Charlie Kirk wrote. “This woman is trash.”

“Democrats, please keep giving Jasmine Crockett the microphone,” activist Riley Gaines wrote. “We’ll never lose an election again.”

“Jasmine Crockett called our Gov. Greg Abbott ‘Hot Wheels’—mocking disabled Americans in the process,” congressional candidate Sholdon Daniels wrote. “This isn’t leadership, it’s cruelty. To every Texan with a disability: You are valued, respected, and welcome in my movement. Unlike Crockett, I believe in dignity for ALL.”

Daniels, a Republican, is campaigning to unseat Crockett in Texas’s 30th Congressional District. It is largely a Democratic district as a Republican has not won it since it was established in 1993.

Crockett has also gone after Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and suggested he be “knocked over the head.” When it came to Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who moved the headquarters of his company to Texas in recent years, Crockett said earlier this month that she wanted to see Musk “taken down” for her birthday.
