Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) issued a scathing review of border czar appointee Tom Homan‘s plan to solve the border crisis.

President-elect Donald Trump tapped Homan as his border czar shortly after winning the election. Since then he has announced Gov. Kristi Noem (R-SD) to be his Department of Homeland Security secretary and Stephen Miller to be a homeland security adviser. Homan has promised mass deportations but Crockett implied his plan will not work when asked about them on Alex Witt Reports Saturday.

“Again, we have someone who does not know what he’s doing,” Crockett said of Homan. “You have Trump that goes out there, him and his minions, who say things like ‘you know what, we’re only get rid of the bad ones,’ right? People sit there, and they’re like, ‘Wait a minute. You’re gonna come to my job where I’m working and paying into taxes or whatever? Or my kids are at school?’ I think there will be a rude awakening on all sides.”

Crockett took aim at Homan’s detention plans, including those to keep immigrant families in “open-air campuses.” The quotation from Homan prompted laughter from Crockett.

“I’m curious to know if he’s ever been to a jail or prison,” Crockett said. “The reality is that these are nothing more than detention camps that look a lot like jails and prisons. I mean, obviously, there is what they call ‘the yard’ when you go to a prison, and that is an open-air facility.”

During Trump’s first term, families were separated in some cases, which prompted a class-action lawsuit from these families. As a result, the federal government settled with as many as 5,000 children and committed to fund their reunification, which Crockett implied cost the government a large sum. However, President Joe Biden funded the transportation of illegal immigrants from the border to various parts of the country throughout his administration.

Among the estimated 10 million immigrants who illegally entered the U.S. since Biden took office, 1.3 million of them have outstanding deportation orders.
