As much as he may cry that the campaign arm of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee spent millions against him, Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) has no one but himself to blame for his primary loss Tuesday night.

The former middle school principal who ousted longtime incumbent Rep. Eliot Engel (D-NY) in a shocking upset in 2020 has spent his four years in Congress as a camera-hungry diva rather than a serious legislator.

A member of the liberal “Squad,” Bowman has proved to be a thorn in the side of the leadership of the House Democratic Conference by staking out far-left positions on Israel, infrastructure spending, and immigration.

But it was his antics outside of committee meetings and the House floor that really distinguished him from the rest of the House of Representatives. His biggest stunt occurred last fall when he pulled the fire alarm in the Cannon House Office Building in a bid to delay a vote on a bill that would avoid a government shutdown.

The stunt earned him a censure by the House, but it was only the beginning of his juvenile behavior. After the Oct. 7 Hamas terrorist attack in Israel, Bowman cast doubt on reports that the terrorist group committed violent rape during its rampage.

After polling indicated that Westchester County Executive George Latimer was in the driver’s seat for the Democratic primary in Bowman’s 16th Congressional District, the congressman’s erratic behavior became even more unhinged.

Amid claims that AIPAC and Republican donors were buying the election by funding his opponent, Bowman held several events with his political allies, including Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY). At one of his final campaign events, an unhinged Bowman unleashed an expletive-laden tirade that further showcased his unbecoming behavior.

As much as he may blame AIPAC and the Republican donors who spent millions to defeat him, the final result was not even close. With roughly 12% of the vote outstanding (as of this writing), Latimer leads Bowman by a healthy 17-point margin.

The voters of New York’s 16th Congressional District were tired of his antics. Bowman has no one to blame but himself.
