An Israeli hostage who was praised for defiantly staring down her Hamas captors upon her release threatened to stay in Gaza if her husband was not released with her.

Rimon Kirsht was one of the dozens of hostages Hamas released this week, though she was freed without her husband Yagev Buchshtab. As she was released, video captured the moment she looked a masked fighter square in the eye before moving on.

“When they told her she was being released, she didn’t want to go," a family member of Kirsht told Israel Hayom on Wednesday. "She told them, ‘Either we leave together, or I stay here, and no one gets released.' Hamas terrorists told her, ‘You have two options: Either get released willingly or we’ll drag you on the floor.’ They didn’t leave her a choice."

The relative said Kirsht and Buchshtab had been held together during their more than 50 days in captivity.

The agreement between Hamas and Israel only allows for women and children to be released. The pause in fighting has allowed for about 70 hostages held by Hamas or other Gaza-based terrorist groups to be freed in exchange for a break in the war, a surge of international humanitarian aid, and the release of three times as many Palestinians held in Israeli jails.

There are still about 150 hostages held in Gaza. Israeli officials have said they would hold off on the resumption of their military activities one day for every 10 hostages that are released. The two sides agreed Thursday morning to extend the deal for another day just minutes before it would have expired. Presumably, both sides will face the same situation on Friday morning.

Israeli leaders have stated their intent to restart their military operations in Gaza whenever the ceasefire ends.
