Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo thinks there could be "months" of Israel fighting Hamas before its citizens are safe again.
Pompeo offered his prediction on Hannity Friday, 20 days after Hamas launched thousands of rockets into Israel along with dozens of fighters. As Congress is debating President Joe Biden's $14 billion aid proposal for Israel, the former secretary of state suggested the United States should be ready for the long haul.

“We’re not talking about hours this evening or days this week. We are talking about months to defeat Hamas in detail,” Pompeo said. “That’s the requirement. That’s the necessary requirement to keep the Israelis, and frankly, as we’ve seen Americans, safe, as well.”
Meanwhile, Iran-backed forces have attacked U.S. assets dozens of times since Oct. 7. Pompeo expressed his disapproval of Biden for not responding proportionately to these attacks even after the U.S. hit several militia sites. Instead, he suggested further retribution.
“This is all orchestrated trade funded by one place, the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Pompeo said. “And what Israel is doing tonight will only continue to drive Iran to take even more aggressive actions unless the United States does its fundamental role of deterring them.”

As of Saturday, the death toll in Gaza has reached 7,703 people per the Associated Press, and the deaths come in response to attacks on Israel earlier this month that killed around 1,400 people. The Israeli military was still in the area on Saturday morning.
In addition to requested aid to Israel, Biden is also proposing over $60 billion to Ukraine, which is over a year into its war against Russia. In March of last year, Russian forces invaded the country and have yet to leave.
