NextImg:Israel war: Finally, we have Greta Thunberg’s analysis of the Israel-Hamas war

Thank goodness: Climate change alarmist and darling of the international liberal media Greta Thunberg has, at long last, weighed in on the conflict between Israel and Hamas . In a social media post published Friday morning, Thunberg held up a sign that read, “Stand with Gaza,” while writing: “Today we strike in solidarity with Palestine and Gaza. The world needs to speak up and call for an immediate ceasefire, justice and freedom for Palestinians and all civilians affected.”

This is her first and only mention of the Israel-Hamas conflict on her account on X (the social media website once known as Twitter), which has a whopping 5.6 million followers, since the despicable Hamas attacks on Oct. 7 that killed 1,400 Israelis, injured thousands more, and took 200 hostages. As of this writing, Thunberg has no posts that mention the conflict on her Facebook page and only one post on her Instagram account that has essentially the same message as her X post.

IVY LEAGUE SCHOOLS LOSE DONORS AMID ANTI-ISRAEL STUDENT ACTIVISM

Thunberg also shared an Instagram post to her “story” that called on people across the world to engage in a “general strike” and refuse to go to school or work to show “solidarity” with Palestinians. The post reads : “Let's make it together a reality and bring as much pressure on the West to change it's [sic] racist policies and to stop the genocide in Gaza! We will not be silent while our people, our families are being slaughtered!”

Yet Thunberg apparently does not have any problem with being silent while people and families are being slaughtered. Because nowhere in any of her social media feeds did she say a word about the attacks on Israel. The young activist did not offer a specific thought or a prayer for any of the innocent civilians targeted in Hamas’s brutal attacks nor condemn its use of violent terrorism. She couldn’t even spare a syllable for the Israeli babies that were killed by Hamas terrorists .

That’s the first thing that makes Thunberg’s statement so disgusting. It’s truly mind-boggling that an internationally famous figure could comment on this conflict, which was escalated to its current fever pitch by Hamas’s brutal terrorist attack, without even mentioning that attack or offering any support to its victims.

Of course, it’s entirely understandable that Thunberg would sympathize with the plight of the people of Gaza. No one denies that the conditions they are facing are horrendous. (The real debate is whether that’s truly Israel’s fault or whether the blame lies with Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip.) But to do that without even sparing a thought for the Israeli victims shows a shockingly one-sided ignorance at best — and a lack of value for Jewish lives at worst.

There’s also Thunberg’s call for a “ceasefire.” This is a platitude we’ve seen espoused by many progressives, including politicians, so it’s not exactly shocking to see it parroted by the young climate activist. Yet it’s nonetheless shockingly naive.

We all want to see peace in the Middle East. But you can’t have one side of a conflict commit an atrocious terrorist attack against the other and then immediately expect a ceasefire. Israel obviously must retaliate and destroy Hamas. Would any Americans have accepted a “ceasefire” with al Qaeda on Sept. 12, 2001?

Oh, and don’t forget Thunberg’s inclusion of a “climate justice” sign in her original post. Greta, did we really need to bring up the "Green New Deal" while people are dying in a bloody conflict? Using a global humanitarian catastrophe to promote your unrelated ideological agenda is not a great look.

Thunberg’s whole statement is an unmitigated disaster. It’s yet another reminder that celebrities or activists on one particular topic shouldn’t be so quick to sound off on complicated, divisive topics they know nothing about. They could always do us all a favor and just say nothing at all.
