An Israeli soldier who was being held hostage in Gaza has been rescued, the Israeli military said on Monday night local time.
Col. Uri Magidish, who has since been reunited with her family, was among the more than 200 people who were kidnapped earlier this month during the unprecedented Oct. 7 terror attacks.

"Tonight, the female soldier Col. Uri Magidish was released, during a ground operation, after she was kidnapped by the terrorist organization Hamas on 7/10. The soldier was medically examined, her condition is good and she met with her family," IDF spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari said. "The IDF and Shin Bet will continue to make every effort to bring about the release of the abductees."

It's unclear whether Hamas released her or whether the Israeli forces recovered her during their operation. If it's the latter, it could indicate that Israel is attempting hostage rescue operations.
Magidish is now the fifth hostage to be freed following two sets of two people who had been released previously.
Hamas has claimed that Israeli strikes have killed some of the hostages, but has not offered proof to support those claims. Yocheved Lifshitz, 85, one of two elderly women who were released last week, said they were held in the underground Hamas tunnels that they use to hide weapons and move freely without fear of Israeli airstrikes.

“I went through a hell that we’d never imagined. They [Hamas terrorists] rampaged through the kibbutz,” she said, adding that they beat her with sticks which made it difficult to breathe. Lifshitz said that they “really took care of the sanitary side of things so that we didn’t get sick,” and she added, “They were very generous to us, very kind. They kept us clean. They took care of every detail. There are a lot of women and they know about feminine hygiene and they took care of everything there.”
Hamas released a video hours before the IDF announced Magidish's recovery showing three hostages decrying Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, though it's unclear if their comments were coercive.
