White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt joined members of the Trump administration in firmly rebuffing reports that Iran’s nuclear sites were not completely destroyed, citing information from the two countries involved in the conflict.
The administration has been adamant that a report that the recent strikes against Iran only set the nuclear program back a few months is wrong. Leavitt described the leaked information as a “low-confidence, preliminary intelligence assessment.” In the face of multiple people debunking the report, Israel’s Atomic Energy Commission has stated that the strikes on Fordow, one of the sites struck by the United States, “rendered the enrichment facility inoperable.”

“The [Defense Intelligence Agency] themselves have now come out and said, ‘This was a preliminary report, and this CNN story got it completely wrong,’” Leavitt stated on Fox News’s America Reports. “But that reporter is a sheep and she’s a mouthpiece for people who don’t like [President] Donald Trump, and she only gave the White House an hour to respond, and that’s, again, the same playbook we’ve seen the fake news media play time and time again. But this story has now been debunked widely by not just the United States, but also Iran and Israel as well.”
Leavitt suggested it was not a “coincidence” that the CNN report on the Iran strikes was written by the same reporter who “falsely alleg[ed] that the Hunter Biden laptop was Russian disinformation.” In previewing what the Trump administration would do next over the leak, Leavitt confirmed that the FBI and the Department of Justice are investigating it.
The press secretary also echoed sentiments by Middle East Envoy Steve Witkoff, stating that people with “common sense” recognize that “total destruction” was enacted with the strikes using 30,000-pound bombs. She proceeded to preview that the destruction’s remains are buried under “miles and miles of rubble.”

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has started an investigation into the leak with the help of the FBI. He has accused media outlets of trying to “spin” the leak to paint Trump in a negative light and “trying to undermine the president and the successful mission.”
Following the U.S.’s strikes against Iran, Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) has expressed concern over Iranian sleeper cells in the U.S. that could retaliate in the near future. Border czar Tom Homan has voiced similar concerns, saying Sunday that 1,272 Iranian nationals were released into the U.S. during the Biden administration.
