A monthly average of over 372,000 Instagram users nationwide searched how to delete the app and deactivate their accounts over the last year.

Social media research firm Viralyft issued a report on Google searches in the United States that found that out of all the social media platforms, Instagram saw the most searches on deleting the app. Facebook was in second place with a monthly average of over 313,000 searches on the topic. Both of those platforms are owned by Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta.

Rounding out the top five was Snapchat with over 152,000 monthly searches, then X (formerly known as Twitter) with over 71,000 searches and Telegram with more than 51,000. Neither Snapchat or Telegram made the top 10 most downloaded apps among social media platforms.

On the other hand, YouTube was the most downloaded app, per Google searches, with over 174 million searches on a monthly average. It was followed by Facebook’s 134 million, then Instagram’s 30 million, then X’s 28 million, and LinkedIn’s 11 million.

The Washington Examiner reached out to Meta for comment.

X underwent new ownership when Elon Musk purchased the platform in 2022. Many users threatened to leave X as a result, but it has continued to thrive.

This week, X made likes private for its users. Musk shared activity from the platform since then and implied it has only helped users become more active. The chart showed that in the hours after the change, likes were up above 18,000 per minute and even as high as 22,000, while in the week before, likes struggled to reach above 18,000.

Facebook has some 3 billion users worldwide. Instagram, meanwhile, has 2 billion users.

While the average age of users of every social media platform is getting lower due to more young people joining, Zuckerberg apologized earlier this year to the families present at the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing whose children had died of suicide following the use of his apps. A third of U.S. teenagers between the ages 13 and 17 reported using Facebook while 59% use Instagram.
