Inflation, as measured by the producer price index, rose four-tenths of a percentage point to 3% for the year ending in November, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Thursday.

The increase in the inflation rate is more than economists had anticipated and adds to recent signs that price pressures have not yet abated as President-elect Trump prepares to take office.

On a month-to-month basis, the producer price index increased by 0.4%.

The numbers come a day after the more closely watched consumer price index showed inflation trending up for a second month in a row in November.

Inflation rose a tenth of a percentage point to 2.7% for the year ending in November in the CPI, according to the BLS. That marked the second rise in annual inflation in six months.

Food prices rose last month and housing prices have also pushed inflation up, with shelter costs accounting for nearly 40% of the increase in the CPI.

The Federal Reserve’s goal is 2% inflation, and after years of higher interest rates, the central bank has started reducing its rate target. But stickier inflation reports could cause the Fed to keep rates higher for longer.

The economy, and specifically inflation, was the biggest issue for voters this past election cycle. Republicans blamed years of cumulative inflation on the Biden administration and allowed Trump to swing into office amid the concerns.

Next week, the Fed will meet to consider whether to cut interest rates. Most investors expect the central bank will end up cutting rates, although the trajectory for further meetings is unclear.
