Allies of former President Donald Trump were quick to gloat over Hunter Biden's plea deal over federal charges on Tuesday.
President Joe Biden's son has reached a plea deal on two misdemeanor charges of not paying federal income taxes and has entered an agreement with authorities for unlawfully possessing a weapon as an illicit drug user.

MAGA Inc., the super PAC that backs Trump, wasted little time in praising the former president over Hunter's legal problems.
"President Trump is right again!" the group tweeted over an image of a Mediaite story titled "Trump Predicts Hunter Biden Will Get Charged With 'Something Small' to 'Make Their Strike on Me Look Fair.'"
Former Trump senior adviser Stephen Miller predicted Hunter would receive a light sentence due to his familial connections.
"The fix is in. Get ready for a sweetheart deal designed to shield Joe Biden and the Biden family influence scheme," Miller said. "A distraction to play. Just like the feds never went after the Clinton Global Initiative & Hillary’s real motive for the private server and destruction of evidence."
Likewise, Steve Guest, a former rapid response director of the Republican National Committee, said, "The Biden DOJ continues to turn a blind eye on Hunter and Joe Biden's corrupt foreign dealings."
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), a key Trump ally, argued that Hunter is receiving preferential treatment.
"Hunter Biden pleading guilty to a gun charge and misdemeanor tax charges with no jail time is a stunt to make him look like he is just cooperating with the DOJ," she said. "Meanwhile the pathetic and weaponized DOJ who protects their puppet President and refuses to prosecute Joe Biden and Hunter for taking bribes from Ukrainian oligarchs and raking in tens of millions of dollars from foreign countries bc the Big Guy makes policy decisions to be help his customers are the real crimes the Biden’s should be charged with!"

Republicans sympathetic to Trump have long argued that the former president has been targeted by federal agencies including the FBI and the Department of Justice in harsher ways compared to Democrats. After it was revealed that Trump is facing a 37-criminal count indictment over allegations he mishandled classified documents, some lawmakers slammed the "weaponization" of the DOJ and pointed to Hunter Biden as one example of Democrats' misdeeds not being properly investigated.
A federal judge set the first court date over Trump's classified documents trial for Aug. 14, 2023, just nine days before the first GOP primary debate.
