Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley said Hunter Biden's deal with the Justice Department to plead guilty to three federal charges only brings up "further questions" in a statement shared with the Washington Examiner on Tuesday.

Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, will plead guilty to two misdemeanor charges related to his failure to pay federal income taxes. He has also entered a pretrial agreement with the DOJ over his unlawful purchase of a firearm.

Republicans nationwide have excoriated the DOJ's handling of the Hunter Biden investigation compared to its handling of indicting former President Donald Trump on charges of mishandling classified documents after leaving the White House.

Haley, despite criticizing Trump's handling of national security documents, was no different. “This plea deal only raises further questions about Hunter Biden’s crimes and the double standard of justice in our federal government. There is clearly a lot more the Biden family has to answer for," Haley said in a statement.

Republicans on Capitol Hill are in agreement. House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) said his committee would continue to investigate Hunter Biden and President Joe Biden over an alleged bribery scheme involving a Ukrainian energy executive.

“Let’s be clear: The Department of Justice’s charges against President Biden’s son Hunter reveal a two-tiered system of justice,” Comer said in a statement. “These charges against Hunter Biden and sweetheart plea deal have no impact on the Oversight Committee’s investigation. We will not rest until the full extent of President Biden’s involvement in the family’s schemes are revealed.”

Another 2024 presidential candidate echoing Haley: Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL). DeSantis also slammed the federal agency for its leniency on Democrats, arguing that Hunter Biden would be in jail if he were a Republican.
