President Joe Biden told reporters he's "very proud" of his son on Tuesday after news broke of a plea deal involving the younger Biden.
Biden gave a brief address to reporters in San Francisco ahead of a meeting with Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) and a panel of experts to discuss artificial intelligence and his administration's commitment to seize the "opportunities" it has to offer. Immediately after finishing his address, reporters erupted with questions not about AI but about the news of his son Hunter Biden's decision to plead guilty to two charges related to failure to pay federal income tax after years of investigation.

His remarks are his first in-person comments on the matter. The White House issued a statement along the same lines earlier in the day.
“The president and first lady love their son and support him as he continues to rebuild his life," White House Counsel's Office spokesman Ian Sams told reporters Tuesday. "We will have no further comment.”
