The chairman of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, which has taken a leading role in the House’s inquiry into Hunter Biden, is not fond of the idea of a special counsel being appointed to investigate the president’s son.

Rep. James Comer (R-KY), chairman of the Oversight Committee, said he doesn’t want to see a special counsel appointed by the Department of Justice to investigate Hunter Biden because his committee, along with House Ways and Means and Judiciary Committees, are already doing the work.

NEW JERSEY SUES OVER NEW YORK CITY CONGESTION PRICING PLAN

“I have no confidence in special counsels,” Comer said this week. “I have no confidence in Merrick Garland to appoint an independent, credible, unbiased special counsel. I think we're making a lot of progress in our investigation. So, we're gonna continue to plow forward."

This follows the trend of Republicans in the House believing the DOJ is corrupted by politics and worked to protect Hunter Biden during their investigation into him, leaving the trust they have in the agency very slim.

On Wednesday, two Internal Revenue Service whistleblowers, supervisory agent Gary Shapley and special agent Joe Ziegler, testified before the Oversight Committee on their past testimony, which alleged the DOJ significantly interfered with their criminal investigation into Hunter Biden. They alleged the DOJ blocked the lead U.S. Attorney on the case, David Weiss’s, request for special counsel status, prevented them from interviewing Hunter Biden, blocked their access to Biden’s infamous laptop, and allowed the statute of limitations to run out on more tax charges than what he plans to plead guilty too.

This testimony has significantly hurt the trust that Republican members have in the DOJ, which in turn affects their trust in any kind of special counsel.

And House Republicans view that they are already doing the work of a special counsel by investigating and uncovering more information about Hunter Biden and the rest of the Biden family than the DOJ had previously released.
