The first presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump is set to take place on Tuesday on ABC News.
Anchors David Muir and Linsey Davis will moderate the debate at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The first presidential debate took place on CNN in June. President Joe Biden’s performance against Trump was widely viewed as lackluster, with choppy answers and a confused look clouding his face throughout. The debate set off three weeks of back-and-forth disagreements within the Democratic Party, which ended in Biden’s exit from the presidential race in July.
This will also be the first time Harris and Trump will meet in person since Trump did not attend Biden’s inauguration following the Jan. 6 attacks.
How can I watch the debate?
ABC News can be accessed by most cable providers, YouTube TV, FuboTV, or Hulu + Live TV. The debate will also be livestreamed on ABC News Live and Disney+.
DirecTV cable customers will not be able to watch the debate on ABC because the companies are negotiating access to Disney-owned networks, which includes ABC News.
Other large networks, such as CBS, CNN, Fox News, and NBC/MSNBC/CNBC, will simulcast the debate on their own networks, which DirecTV customers could use as a workaround.
ABC News and other TV networks will have a live analysis of the debate immediately once it ends.
What time is the debate?
The debate will begin at 9 p.m. Eastern time or 6 p.m. Pacific time. It will last 90 minutes and include two commercial breaks.
What are the rules?
ABC News is using the same set of rules from the CNN debate. Both candidates will not be able to use notes, cannot consult with aides during breaks, and will have muted microphones while the other is speaking. Harris and Trump will only be allowed to have a pen, paper, and a bottle of water at their podium. There will not be a live audience.
Both campaigns have accepted the rules of the ABC News debate.
When is the next debate or the vice presidential debate?
It is unclear if and when Harris and Trump will debate again, but it is expected they will in October. The Harris campaign said the Trump campaign had agreed to the ABC debate and a second debate.

Both campaigns have agreed to a vice presidential debate between nominees Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) and Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH).
They will debate on Oct. 1 on CBS News. CBS News anchor and managing editor Norah O’Donnell and CBS News chief foreign affairs correspondent Margaret Brennan will moderate the debate. A time for the vice presidential debate has not been announced.
