It’s well-known that carjackings have become a dangerous problem in cities nationwide. Statistics show that since 2020, such crimes have skyrocketed throughout the nation, reaching “epidemic levels” in some cities.
One of those cities was Washington, D.C.; the latest victim was Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX), who had his car stolen at gunpoint outside his apartment on Monday night. He was at least the 754th carjacking victim this year in D.C.

“I was just coming into my place. Three guys came out of nowhere, and they pointed guns at me,” Cuellar told the media about the incident. “I do have a black belt, but I recognize when you got three guns — I looked at one with a gun, another with a gun, a third one behind me. So they said they wanted my car. I said, ‘Sure.’”
The three suspects have not been identified or arrested, but at this point, would anyone be surprised to find out that the carjackers had a prior criminal history? Or maybe they were granted early release from jail like many other criminals nationwide caught committing violent crimes? This is all speculative, of course, but it would fit the pattern of many criminals terrorizing people nationwide.
Furthermore, speaking of patterns, Cuellar would be the third Democratic congressional representative who was the victim of the nation’s violent crime wave in 22 months. In addition to Cuellar, the Washington Examiner reported that Rep. Angie Craig (D-MN) was physically assaulted in her apartment building’s elevator in February 2023. In December 2021, while visiting Philadelphia, Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon was also carjacked at gunpoint. Just exactly how many congressional Democrats have to be attacked and victimized before they start changing their tune on crime?

Multiple studies show that a main reason for the surge in violent crimes such as carjackings (and homicides) has been the Democrats and their awful policies on crime. Their reform campaigns have prioritized protecting criminals and leaving innocent people who follow the law to fend for themselves. Their toxic and radical left-wing policies have kept criminals out of jail, which, in turn, has emboldened them to commit crimes. Now, the Left’s chickens have come home to roost.
Our country's politicians were never victims of rogue, random, violent crime before. It's indicative of how terrible things have become in this country. Hopefully, now that enough Democrats have had their lives threatened by violent criminals, they will start to embrace common sense instead of policies funded by George Soros. Moreover, now that Democrats have experienced the suffering that results from the policies they implemented, they may realize that criminals are the bad guys and belong in jail instead of being free on the streets to cause harm.
