Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) should pay millions for pursuing the now-discredited theory that former President Donald Trump colluded with Russia ahead of the 2016 presidential election, according to a House Republican.

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) filed a privileged resolution on Tuesday afternoon to "censure, condemn, and fine" Schiff $16 million, which is half the cost of the special counsel investigation of Russian election inference led by Robert Mueller. Schiff led a similar investigation during his time as chairman of the House Intelligence Committee.

MAKE OR BREAK: THIS WEEK INTO NEXT IS CRITICAL WINDOW FOR DEBT CEILING NEGOTIATIONS

"I just filed a privileged resolution, H. Res. 437, to censure, condemn, and fine Rep. Adam Schiff $16 million (1/2 the cost of Russia investigation) for his egregious abuse of trust," Luna tweeted. "I, with my GOP colleagues, look forward to an imminent vote to hold this feckless man accountable."

Luna filed a motion on May 17 to expel Schiff after the Durham report cast doubt on whether the FBI should have investigated connections between Trump and Russia. Many Republicans have deemed the investigation into Trump a political stunt and "weaponization" of the federal government.

Schiff has been a longtime target of the Republican caucus due to the role he played in Trump's impeachment and in the investigation into whether Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election

"Schiff lied to the American people. He used his position on House Intel to push a lie that cost American taxpayers millions of dollars," Luna said last week. "He is a dishonor to the House of Representatives."

The California Democrat responded to Luna's first motion, saying "MAGA" Republicans would "go after anyone who defends the rule of law."

The motions against Schiff, if carried out, could endanger his chances of succeeding Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), who is retiring after this term. Reps. Katie Porter (D-CA) and Barbara Lee (D-CA) are also running for Feinstein's seat in 2024.

The Washington Examiner reached out to Schiff for comment on the collusion motion.
