The House Judiciary Committee will be holding a field hearing on April 17 in New York City. It will focus on Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s crime policies and how they affect the city.

The “Victims of Violent Crime in Manhattan” hearing will begin at 9 a.m. in the Javits Federal Building at 26 Federal Plaza. The committee, led by Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH), will examine Bragg’s crime policy and how it affects the city.

The hearing “will examine how Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s pro-crime, anti-victim policies have led to an increase in violent crime and a dangerous community for New York City residents,” according to a tweet..

The newly Republican-controlled House of Representatives has set up multiple roads to pursue what it calls the weaponization of the government against conservative figures. The Judiciary Committee has made efforts to investigate Bragg’s office.

Bragg is overseeing a New York trial of former President Donald Trump. Trump was charged with over 30 counts of business fraud recently, making him the first U.S. president in history to be indicted on felony charges.

Bragg responded in his own post on Twitter. The DA implied in a statement that the hearing would be a farce and called it a political stunt.

“Don’t be fooled, the House GOP is coming to the safest big city in America for a political stunt,” the statement read. “This hearing won’t engage in actual efforts to increase public safety, such as supporting national gun legislation and shutting down the iron pipeline.”

The statement went on to express that the DA’s office welcomes discussions on crime and safety. The statement included crime statistics that showed crime to be down in the city in the first quarter of the year.
