House Republicans introduced an election reform bill Monday reflecting the party's concerns about the election process in the United States.
Committee on House Administration Chairman Bryan Steil (R-WI) introduced the American Confidence in Elections, or ACE, Act, which Republicans touted as the "most conservative election integrity bill to be seriously considered in the House in over 20 years."

The bill would put restrictions on election practices that have been the target of conservative scrutiny. It would require states to preserve election materials for 22 months, allow states to use federal funds on audits, and restrict ballot harvesting.
"The ACE Act has three main pillars: equipping states with election integrity tools, implementing election integrity reforms in Washington, D.C., and protecting political speech and donor privacy," Steil wrote Monday morning in the Washington Examiner.
"The primary section of the bill is focused on providing states with tools to improve voter confidence. We will remove outdated policies that stand in their way and provide access to information held only by federal agencies," he added.
One section of the bill would prevent federal agencies "from asking for nonprofit organizations’ donor lists, creating ad hoc standards, and applying them to ideologically opposed groups. This section of the bill will also bring greater transparency and accountability into the federal campaign finance system," he continued.
The bill has come under fire from Democrats, some of whom have denounced it as "anti-American," the Hill reported.
“This legislation is designed to appease extremist election deniers who have spent the last four years attacking our democracy,” Rep. Joe Morelle (D-NY), ranking member on the House Administration Committee, said.

“It would restrict the fundamental right to vote especially for voters of color, jeopardize the security of our elections, burden local election administrators, and bring more dark money into our electoral process — opening the door to corruption. It’s anti-American,” he added.
Democrats are pursuing their own election-related bills, primarily the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.
