Mental health irregularities, acts of crazed violence, and unhinged political activism have arguably become synonymous with the contemporary political Left. This radical and concerning behavior has escalated in recent years, mainly propelled by an irrational hatred of President Donald Trump, often referred to as Trump derangement syndrome, and an inability to process these emotions, culminating in the aforementioned unstable behavior. Far too frequently, this has resulted in acts of violence, ranging from assassination attempts and physical assaults to firebombing and other acts of vandalism.

Yet, for whatever reason, a group of left-wing hippies in the Pacific Northwest has taken its obsessive political fanaticism to a new level of mental abnormality, albeit a far more pacifist approach. A group associated with the Portland World Naked Bike Ride announced last week that it was holding an “emergency” bike ride to protest Trump’s possible deployment of the National Guard to Portland, Oregon, because nothing says standing up against Trump’s fascism and threat to democracy like a bunch of naked hippies riding bikes in Oregon.

“As a long-standing protest, we believe strongly in the power of people, and love that Portlanders use bikes (and sometimes their bodies) to stand up for justice and community,” Portland World Naked Bike Ride said in a statement on Thursday.

This is not normal. These people are unwell. Moreover, such an event accomplishes nothing other than satisfying the protesters’ unhealthy, constant need for attention.

Trump’s decision to deploy National Guard troops to Portland was predicated on ridding the city of antifa and other violent left-wing agitators who, Trump argued, have terrorized the city, becoming too much of a burden for local law enforcement officials to handle by themselves. Liberals, Democrats, and other prominent left-wing politicians have denied the need for such additional law enforcement measures, claiming that the violence is minimal and isolated.

Yet, these are predominantly the same people who categorized the chaotic and destructive George Floyd riots in 2020 as “mostly peaceful” and likened them to a “summer of love.” Given their consistent record of dishonesty and unreliability, it’s hard to take any of them seriously.

The left-wing, nude cycling enthusiasts said they would gather and mobilize “in response to the militarization of our city. Plans are being worked on,” the Washington Examiner previously reported. However, over the weekend, Karin Immergut, a judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon, blocked Trump’s orders to deploy the National Guard in Portland twice, with the most recent ruling occurring late Sunday.

“Not content with this Court’s or the Ninth Circuit’s judgment, Defendants are now in the process of circumventing this Court’s Order,” court documents read. “After this Court ruled that 10 U.S.C. § 12406 could not justify federalizing the Oregon National Guard to deploy them to Portland, Defendants have deployed members of the California National Guard to Portland — service members who were federalized under that very same Title 10 authority for deployment in Los Angeles.”

Given the recent court rulings, it’s uncertain whether the naked bike ride will proceed.

Riding a bicycle naked is clearly a weird way to protest the president. Normal, sane, rational people don’t do these things — especially as a protest against a politician. Nevertheless, it is a much better alternative than attempting to assassinate presidential candidates, political activists, or snipers shooting at federal officers doing their jobs. However, the idea of riding bikes naked as a form of political protest is yet another sign of questionable and concerning mental health from radical liberals, Democrats, and others on the Left.
