The annual Congressional Baseball Game takes place on Wednesday, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Nationals Park in Washington.

A tradition dating back to 1909, the matchup brings members of Congress together each summer for a charity baseball game.

Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) posted a video on X of her preparing for the game, with the caption, “Time to lock in.”

Last year, the Republicans defeated the Democrats 31-11, bringing their total number of wins to 46. The GOP is on a four-year winning streak.

Over the years, the event’s popularity evolved into its own foundation, “Congressional Sports for Charity.” The foundation provides support to charities in the Washington DC area and scholarships for local youth.

The foundation supports the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Washington, the Washington Nationals Philanthropies, and the United States Capitol Police Memorial Fund.

The team has been working out every day Congress has been in session since March 1, according to Williams.

“I’ve coached these guys to just do the basics, and they’re really good at the basics,” he said. “Our goal is to play good defense and score more runs than they score.”

The Republican team is confident in taking home another victory, but Democrats are hoping to put up a better game than last year.

“I think we look better than we did at this point last year,” said Sanchez, the Democratic coach. “We have a strategy this year and we have a little more depth, so we’ll see.”

The Democratic team will feature some new players, including Min, Olszewski, and Tran. Sanchez said they have a bigger bullpen this year as well.
