Georgia residents could have unclaimed money waiting for them, and all they would have to do to receive it is fill out a form online.

The state's Department of Revenue describes unclaimed property as money that takes the forms of uncashed checks, security deposits, and overpayments, among other things. The Peach State helps these unclaimed properties be reunited with their owners through the state's revenue department website, which allows users to file a claim for free.

The Revenue Department warns that if an owner fails to take action to claim their property within a certain amount of time, the property will be turned over to the state. However, this time limit only applies to excess funds from the sale of an abandoned motor vehicle, which are limited to one year.

Anyone interested in checking for unclaimed money can file their claim online on Georgia's Department of Revenue website. The claims will then be paid to recipients sometime between 30 to 90 days.

The payments issued to claimants cannot be issued electronically and will be mailed as a paper check to the address a claimant registered when they filed their claim.
