Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) revealed that he is in “total disbelief” over several Democratic lawmakers advocating the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who was deported to El Salvador, as the Department of Justice has confirmed his connections to the MS-13 gang.
Prior to the Justice Department’s release of documents connecting Abrego Garcia to the MS-13 gang, Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) traveled to El Salvador to try and meet with him. Reps. Maxwell Frost (D-FL) and Yassamin Ansari (D-AZ) also pledged to visit the country.

Hawley has since suggested that these lawmakers advocating that gang members live in the United States have made the Democratic Party hit “moral rock bottom.”
“They are so in love with criminal illegals that they would like to go and personally escort them into the country one at a time, which I guess I slightly prefer to Joe Biden’s version of this which is to allow them 10,000 a day at a time,” Hawley said on Fox News’s Jesse Watters Primetime. “But the truth is, the whole thing is absurd, and I would just say this, Jesse: if these Democrats are so keen to take trips, I formally invite them to the state of Missouri where they can meet with the family of officer David Lee who was killed by a criminal illegal.”
Hawley continued by arguing that the contempt these lawmakers have for the nation goes so far that they will “spend their time in maximum security prisons with criminal illegals” rather than spending it with families who lost loved ones to those in the U.S. illegally. He then knocked Democrats for their “total Trump derangement syndrome,” adding that the party needs to recognize “it’s time to start defending” the U.S. again.
El Salvador’s government denied Van Hollen’s attempt to meet with Garcia. The senator has been harshly criticized by Patty Morin, whose daughter Rachel Morin was killed by an illegal immigrant. Morin said “no action on the Democratic Party in any way” was taken regarding her daughter’s death, and that Van Hollen had not contacted her at all.

Rep. Andy Harris (R-MD) has also criticized his fellow Maryland lawmaker’s visit, suggesting Van Hollen “shouldn’t be spending taxpayer dollars” to go to El Salvador.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt has vowed that Garcia will not live in the U.S. ever again, warning that “he would immediately be deported again” should he make his way back to the U.S.
