Harvard University President Claudine Gay issued an apology to the campus newspaper Thursday following her congressional testimony.

“I am sorry. Words matter,” Gay told the Crimson. “When words amplify distress and pain, I don’t know how you could feel anything but regret.”

EMBATTLED PENN PRESIDENT LIZ MAGILL FACES GROWING CALLS FOR RESIGNATION

This came after Gay appeared before the House Education and Workforce Committee on Tuesday, when she avoided questions regarding students who advocate the "genocide of Jews" and whether they are violating the school's code of conduct. Instead, she said she thought any reference to genocide was "abhorrent."

The next day, University of Pennsylvania President Liz Magill issued her own video apology to X, formerly Twitter. Magill claimed she was "focused on our university's long-standing policies aligned with the U.S. Constitution" during her testimony and should have emphasized that calls for genocide "would" be considered bullying or harassment.

Anti-Defamation League CEO Jonathan Greenblatt later compared the clip to a "hostage video" and went on to say his organization has "lost confidence with" Magill and Gay.

Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) called on Gay to resign from Harvard over her testimony. Gay has been the head of the Ivy League university since July.

Consequences have already set in for Harvard as it has been accused of allowing antisemitism in on-campus protests. Israeli billionaire Idan Ofer and his wife, Batia, have stepped down from Harvard University's executive board after dozens of student groups signed a letter that said they “hold the Israeli regime entirely responsible for all unfolding violence” from Hamas.
