Masked Harvard University encampment protesters went viral after hoisting the Palestinian flag in a place traditionally reserved for the flag of the United States and those of visiting foreign dignitaries.
Protesters raised at least three Palestinian flags from the University Hall on Saturday and flew them over the institution’s famous John Harvard Statue in Harvard Yard, according to an article published by the Harvard Crimson.
Video of the incident showed students also wrapped a Palestinian scarf around the neck of the statue.
Authorities called on Harvard Yard Operations to remove at least one of the flags around 6:34 p.m., which caused the protesters to scream, “Free, free Palestine” and “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” the report noted.
That latter chant has often been viewed by Jews as a call for their extermination and complete eradication from Israel.
While a campus services staffer walked away with the flags, a student reportedly lunged in an attempt to recover them, but fellow protesters stopped him.
The flying of the Palestinian flags is a clear “violation of University policy, and the individuals involved will be subject to disciplinary action,” Harvard spokesman Jonathan L. Swain said in a statement.
Following the flags’ removal, several protesters had their Harvard University IDs photographed and ID numbers gathered by administration officials, the Harvard Crimson noted.
“Harvard, Harvard, take my ID,” protesters declared. “You can’t really scare me.”

Later Saturday evening, more ID numbers were collected by university officials, who passed out warnings of disciplinary action.
“Repeat violations of University and School policies will result in increasingly severe sanctions,” the warnings purportedly read. “Students with pending disciplinary matters may not be granted a degree.”
