NextImg:Harris promises ‘joyful warrior’ campaign in Wisconsin rally - Washington Examiner

Vice President Kamala Harris and Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) held their second joint rally Wednesday afternoon in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, continuing to project a positive image for their campaign.

“We are joyful warriors,” Harris said to waves of cheers at the outdoor event. “Because we know that while fighting for a brighter future may be hard work, hard work is good.”

Harris and Walz met plenty of enthusiasm during their event, with the crowd breaking into chants of “V-P Walz!” “We’re not going back!” and “They’re so weird!” among other things. The Harris campaign claimed that 12,000 people attended the event, which included a concert from Wisconsin-based indie rock band Bon Iver.

During his remarks, Walz aggressively went after Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

“He mocks our laws, he sews chaos and division amongst the people,” Walz said, “and that’s to say nothing of the job he did as president.”

Walz even brought up marksmanship, saying he can “outshoot those guys.”

Both campaigns are heavily focused on Wisconsin as a critical swing state, with both Harris and Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) landing at the Eau Claire airport within minutes of each other. Vance got the fireworks between the two campaigns started early, as he walked over to reporters covering the vice president to call her out for avoiding the press.

“Hopefully it’s going to be my plane in a few months,” Vance said. “I also thought you guys may get lonely because the vice president doesn’t answer questions from reporters,” he added, referencing the fact that Harris has yet to hold a press conference or interview since jumping into the 2024 race.

Harris and Vance did not speak during the encounter. Vance then left to speak at an aviation equipment manufacturer in Eau Claire.

At the Harris-Walz rally, the governor said he can’t wait until he gets the chance to debate Vance.

“Yes, they are creepy and weird as well,” Walz said. “We’re sure as hell not going back.”

As with other states, Wisconsin has swung toward the Democrats since Harris replaced President Joe Biden atop the ticket. She’s up by half a percentage point in Wisconsin, per the RealClearPolitics polling average.
