NextImg:Harris knows she is vice president, right? - Washington Examiner

Vice President Kamala Harris gave her first interview on Thursday night since being anointed as the Democratic presidential candidate in the 2024 election. Yet, during the interview, when she answered questions from CNN host Dana Bash, many of Harris’s answers seemed to reflect a reality in which she was not the sitting vice president or part of the current presidential administration. She appeared to be calling for change from the political reality she has been in charge of since Jan. 20, 2021.

Kamala Harris knows she is the vice president, right?

For example, consider Bash’s first question to Harris.

“If you were elected, what would you do on Day One in the White House?” Bash asked.

“There are a number of things,” Harris replied. “I will tell you, first and foremost, one of my highest priorities is to do what we can to support and strengthen the middle class. When I look at the aspirations, the goals, the ambitions of the American people, I think that people are ready for a new way forward in a way that generations of Americans have been fueled by hope and by optimism.”

Harris spoke a lot of senseless, rambling, and incoherent thoughts to not even answer Bash’s question. Furthermore, what she did say should raise eyebrows, especially her declaration that “people are ready for a new way forward.” A new way forward… from the Biden-Harris administration?

Again, I ask, and perhaps Bash should have asked: Kamala Harris knows she is the vice president, right? If people are ready for a new way forward, it would have to be from the current presidential administration — an administration in which Harris is the vice president.

To make matters worse for Harris, her comments calling for a “new way forward” were made 48 seconds into the interview. This means less than a minute into the first interview Harris ever gave as a presidential candidate, and she was essentially calling for the country to move on from her.

After that odd comment, she pivoted to blaming former President Donald Trump, citing things that happened “in the last decade” instead of the last several years in which Harris was vice president. Incidentally, it should also be noted that not once during this part of the exchange did she express a desire to continue on the path of the Biden-Harris administration.

“I think sadly, in the last decade, we have had in the former president someone who has really been pushing an agenda and an environment that is about diminishing the character and the strength of who we are as Americans, really dividing the nation, and I think people are ready to turn the page on that,” Harris said.

Again, this was just another word salad by Harris that made no sense. It also didn’t answer Bash’s question in any way, a point she noted and repeated her question to Harris.

“So what would you do, Day One?” Bash asked.

“Day One, it’s going to be about implementing my plan for what I call an opportunity economy. I’ve already laid out a number of proposals in that regard, which include what we’re going to do to bring down the cost of everyday goods, what we’re going to do to invest in America’s small businesses, what we’re going to do to invest in families, for example, extending the child tax credit…”

Harris then expanded on this and explained how this tax credit would help families buy car seats, baby clothes, and cribs, among other things. But again, assuming this is even true, does Harris not realize she is vice president now? Why would she wait until January 20, 2025, if things are so bad? She is the vice president; she could work on implementing these ideas now if she really wanted to help people.

However, this isn’t the case because Harris is not really interested in helping Americans. She’s interested in political victories and obtaining power. Her only answers to the many problems facing the country — problems her administration caused — don’t seem to extend beyond blaming the former president. The only thing Harris said of actual value was that Americans were ready for a new way forward — forward from the government in which Harris is the vice president of the United States.
