NextImg:Harris is a bigger threat to checks and balances than Trump - Washington Examiner

Vice President Kamala Harris isn’t just running for president. She is running to turn the checks and balances of our system into a Democratic power loop, which is evidenced by her Supreme Court “reforms.”

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), the Senate’s resident conspiracy theorist when it comes to the Supreme Court, has said Harris has all but endorsed his plan, which would retroactively impose 18-year term limits on Supreme Court justices. That would conveniently remove conservative justices Clarence Thomas next year, John Roberts in 2027, and Samuel Alito in 2029. Whitehouse dubiously claims this can be done by simple congressional majorities, and he and Harris will blame the Supreme Court anyway if it fails and call for court packing.

During the 2020 primary, Harris said “everything is on the table” to reign in the Supreme Court, including packing the court with liberal justices. She would undeniably head the Democratic Party and liberal media assault on the integrity of the court, which would strike down her unconstitutional policies. The Democratic Party and its media allies have made destroying the court its top priority, whether that be from actual threats from Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (R-LA) or ridiculous hit jobs from “journalists” about justice’s wives.

This is where the Democratic Party is heading. President Joe Biden bragged about ignoring the Supreme Court to pursue his unconstitutional agenda, and Harris already made it clear during the 2020 primary that, as president, she would give Congress 100 days to pass the exact policies she wanted, or she would impose those policies anyway. Democrats have bones to pick with every institution that does not conform to their demands, including trying to circumvent the Electoral College and trying to pack the Senate with reliable Democrats by declaring Washington, D.C., a state.

The difference between former President Donald Trump’s authoritarian threats to the system and Harris’s threats is that Trump’s view of federal and presidential power is not held by nearly the entire party. Harris’s view is. Democrats have, for years, been openly scheming up ways to force the Senate, the electoral system, and the Supreme Court to join the Democratic power blob.

Every authoritarian aspect of Trump’s worldview, from election denial to complete executive control over every state’s election system, is held by Democrats from the head of the party in Harris all the way down to rank-and-file politicians such as Whitehouse or Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD). Harris will lead a Democratic assault on institutions of power that don’t bend the knee to her demands, making her a bigger “threat to democracy” than Trump could be.
