NextImg:Harris has ‘really terrific’ running mate choices: Adam Schiff - Washington Examiner

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) said Vice President Kamala Harris has multiple “terrific” choices for her 2024 running mate if she becomes the Democratic Party nominee.

Harris has received multiple endorsements to replace Joe Biden, including from the president and Schiff, who is running for Senate. Numerous names, including Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) and Gov. Josh Shapiro (D-PA), have been mentioned as possibilities for Harris to pick as her 2024 running mate.

“I think those are all really terrific choices, and, look, as the vice president, Kamala Harris knows more than anyone what is necessary, what skills and qualities in a vice president, not just to become the president of the United States and get to the election, but most important, to actually fulfill the functions of vice president,” Schiff said on ABC’s The View. “So I’m very confident she’s going to pick the right person in terms of doing the job, in terms of getting the job, and I think all the people you mentioned and probably others would do an extraordinary job as her running mate.”

Schiff said the ultimate question in selecting one’s running mate is who would help the most in winning an election, because “if you can’t win, you can’t govern.”

When asked about Biden dropping out of the 2024 race, Schiff denied being part of a “coordinated effort” in ousting the president and claimed he was voicing “what I think many Americans were thinking.” Schiff was one of the most notable congressional Democrats to ask Biden to bow out of the 2024 race after the first presidential debate last month.

Despite Harris receiving multiple endorsements, Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT) has argued that the current vice president being the Democratic Party’s 2024 nominee is not “a done deal.” Tester is running for reelection this November, with his race considered a “toss-up” between him and Republican challenger Tim Sheehy.

Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), meanwhile, has vocalized her support for Harris at a recent rally, arguing that Democrats feel a positive turn since Harris has stepped up to the plate. Like Tester, Baldwin is in a heated reelection race, with her margin of victory dropping by 6 points from 2018 in the latest RealClearPolitics polling average.
