Nearly a majority of people think the Justice Department is handling the investigation into Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, in a partisan manner. Hunter Biden was indicted by federal prosecutors on gun charges on Thursday.

According to a survey from the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, 50% of respondents said they are not too confident or not at all confident with how the DOJ is handling the investigation, while an additional 30% are somewhat confident. Only 19% of people are very or extremely confident in the department’s investigation.

The poll was conducted before House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) opened an impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden and was released shortly before the charges in the U.S. District Court in Delaware were announced for the president’s son.

The yearslong investigation was expected to end earlier this year, but Hunter Biden pleaded not guilty in July to two federal misdemeanor counts for failing to pay taxes in 2017 and 2018 after a district judge refused to sign off on an earlier deal, citing a separate agreement to resolve a gun charge.

Hunter Biden has been charged on two counts related to false statements in purchasing the firearm and a third count on illegally obtaining a firearm. Republicans have spent years looking into Hunter Biden's business with foreign nationals, accusing the president of being involved.

The indictment of Hunter Biden comes days after House Republicans opened an impeachment inquiry into his father over his family’s business dealings, accusing him of corruption.

One in 3 people are worried about the president's alleged connection with Hunter Biden’s business dealings, with 66% of Republicans reporting they are very or extremely concerned. On the other hand, only 7% of Democrats are very or extremely concerned about if Biden committed any wrongdoing.
