NextImg:Haley swipes at DeSantis's 'Trump without the drama' image in new campaign message

2024 presidential candidate Nikki Haley took aim at Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) in a new campaign message, trying to tear down his image that he is like former President Donald Trump "without the drama."

Haley's team sent the campaign message on Tuesday, showing different scenarios in a "game" called "Is it Trump or DeSantis?" and highlighted DeSantis's battle with Disney.

WHO'S IN, WHO'S OUT, AND WHO'S STILL WAITING TO ANNOUNCE FOR SENATE IN 2024

The message claimed DeSantis is "running for president" despite not entering the 2024 presidential race. However, he is already considered to be Trump's top opponent should he make a bid for the White House.

Comparing the two top candidates, Haley's team pointed to two bills DeSantis has pushed in Florida that are reminiscent of Trump. One bill would have made it easier to sue news outlets to hold "big media companies accountable for their actionable lies," and another shielded the governor's travel records from the public. The latter one was signed by DeSantis in May.

Haley's campaign also pointed to comments made by former teammates in a 2022 New Yorker piece in which someone called DeSantis "the most selfish person I have ever interacted with."

"Leaks, abuse of power, drama, and petty political fights," the message stated. "You'd think these are headlines you might have seen during the Trump administration."

"DeSantis might not have Trump's taste for incendiary tweets, but make no mistake: His record shows that his 'leadership style' will only lead to more drama," the message continued.

The message blasts DeSantis on everything from his public speaking presence to his "inability to interact directly with voters," claiming that DeSantis "is like Trump, drama and all — but without any of the charm."

"Nikki Haley knows Americans are tired of all the drama of the past," Haley's campaign message stated. "She is also offering voters a substantive vision for making America strong and proud, even when it deviates from the Trump-DeSantis line."

Haley has become the latest presidential candidate to take swings at DeSantis, a regular habit of the former president. Trump began a massive mudslinging attack against the Florida governor ever since the former president announced he was running for president in November after the midterm elections, in which DeSantis and Florida Republicans achieved significant victories.

A Harvard/Harris poll released on May 19 showed Trump leading with 58%, followed by DeSantis with 16% and Haley with 4%. She tied with entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, who is a 2024 candidate, and former Vice President Mike Pence, who is not.

The Washington Examiner reached out to DeSantis's team for comment.
