Greg Gutfeld and Fox News’s The Five co-hosts outperformed their cable news competition, drawing the most viewers of all cable news programs for the first quarter of 2023.
The Five drew an average of 3.26 million total viewers between January and March despite the double-digit drop in viewership from this time last year that all major news networks experienced, according to Nielsen ratings.

CNN saw the steepest drop, with its prime-time audience down 61% when compared to March 2022, along with a 73% drop in the time slot’s key 25-54 age demographic. The network’s total viewership was down 52%. This is despite the addition of a new morning show and adding episodes of Bill Maher's Overtime on Friday nights. CNN recently announced the addition of a new show hosted by Anderson Cooper, which will air on Sunday nights beginning in April.
In the year’s time, Fox News’s total and prime-time viewership was down 27%. MSNBC saw a 10% drop in total viewership and a 12% decline in prime-time viewership when compared to last year.
Gutfeld’s early evening show outperformed all other rival networks’ shows for the first 2023 quarter, including some in prime time.
Among the key demographic of 25-54-year-olds, The Five also outpaced its competition in March, drawing 317,000 viewers compared to 83,000 for CNN and 78,000 for MSNBC.
