Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) handed his phone over to the FBI after receiving a suspicious text, suspecting it of being hacked.
According to the senator, speaking at the Hill and Valley Forum, he gave his phone to the agency after receiving a message from a supposed hacker trying to impersonate Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY).
“So I get a message, I think, from Schumer,” Graham said. “It ain’t from Schumer. And next thing you know, my phone’s … Anything you can create apparently can be hacked.”
He did not give any further details as to the content of the message.
Graham spokeswoman Taylor Reidy confirmed the incident in a statement, adding that the sergeant-at-arms is investigating.

A giveaway that the text was from a scammer was noted by a Democratic aide, who pointed out that Schumer is known for using an old flip phone and does not text.
“Chuck Schumer isn’t texting you from his flip phone,” the aide said. “If you get a text message from Schumer, it probably isn’t real.”
