An FBI special agent who testified for Republicans as a whistleblower was suspended from the agency for leaking classified information to a right-wing group, according to a bureau official, as first reported by NBC.
Garret O'Boyle had testified that the FBI was intentionally mishandling investigations during a public hearing by the House Select Committee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government, and he accused the agency of retaliation for speaking out, resulting in a suspension from his post.

O'Boyle is now being accused of lying to Congress about leaking sensitive information before his suspension, according to House Committee on the Judiciary Democrats. FBI internal investigators discovered that O'Boyle leaked confidential investigative information to Project Veritas, a conservative group famous for recording undercover videos, NBC reported.
Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) and Del. Stacey Plaskett (D-VI) sent a letter requesting that Attorney General Merrick Garland investigate the accusation that O'Boyle lied to Congress.
Jennifer Moore, executive assistant director of human resources for the FBI, provided testimony to the Weaponization subcommittee on the reason for O'Boyle's suspension.
O'Boyle previously testified to Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), chairman of the Weaponization subcommittee, that he was suspended from the bureau based on allegations and he never revealed sensitive information to outside groups, including the media.
“She [Moore] provided the committee with several examples of when nonpublic information ended up in the public domain and explained how the internal investigation determined Boyle was responsible,” the House Judiciary Democrats Twitter posted on Thursday evening.
“Moore pointed to an interview that Project Veritas conducted with an anonymous subject referred to as an "FBI whistleblower." She said the agency was able to determine O'Boyle was that subject.”
According to a submitted suspension letter to the committee, O'Boyle was removed on September 13, 2022.
“In addition to the interview, Moore said, the bureau's investigation revealed that O'Boyle had also removed sensitive information from FBI computers and provided it to Project Veritas without authorization,” the post reads. “Some of the information shared with the right-wing site was part of an active criminal investigation, she told the committee. There was an urgency to locate who was leaking the information because of the risk it presented, she said, according to the letter.”
