The Washington Examiner’s Kaylee McGhee White said the Republican Party must consider young voters’ cultural values when strategizing on how to engage with those in Generation Z.

While appearing on Sunday Night in America with Trey Gowdy, McGhee White noted that the GOP must not only look at the communication tools used but also find a way to “bridge the gap” concerning its message.

“It comes down to a difference in cultural values,” McGhee White said, noting a recent survey that suggested topics of patriotism, religion, hard work, community, and family are declining in interest. “They’re decreasing in importance, especially among younger generations compared to past generations. And there are two reasons for this, I think. The education system is one of them. Then the culture is another one where young adults have been flooded with liberal values in the education system and pop culture and the entertainment industry.”

McGhee White also pointed out that conservative values are often not found in the spaces where young voters engage, such as social media.

“These values of religion and culture and things like that — where conservatives tend to prioritize those — they’re no longer being emphasized in the spaces where young adults generally are dominant,” McGhee White said. “This is really a difference in values. So, it’s not even just so much as message as it is finding a way to bridge the gap — what’s important to young adults and what’s important to conservatives.”

McGhee White added that the midterm elections were a great example of how the Republican Party must select candidates who can rally millennial and Generation Z voters while also connecting with older voters.
