Following the lead of major competitors, Google gave a sizable donation to President-elect Donald Trump’s inaugural fund this week.

Microsoft, Meta, Amazon, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, and Apple CEO Tim Cook are among the tech titans who donated a million dollars to Trump’s inauguration, which is set to take place on Jan. 20.

On Monday, Google followed in their footsteps, announcing it donated a matching gift of a million dollars to the inaugural fund.

“Google is pleased to support the 2025 inauguration, with a livestream on YouTube and a direct link on our homepage. We’re also donating to the inaugural committee,” Karan Bhatia, Google’s global head of government affairs and public policy, said in a statement to the Washington Examiner

The Trump team has already raised a record $170 million for inaugural festivities, according to a New York Times report, with the funds going to finance opening ceremonies, the parade, galas, and balls.

Google has similarly donated to previous inaugurals. However, its gift to Trump came after it has often been at odds with the president-elect, although the relationship appears to have grown stronger in recent months.

In 2018, Trump accused the tech giant of rigging Google search results against Republicans, saying the vast majority of results were “from National Left-Wing Media.” During his first term, the Justice Department launched a lawsuit against the company, which is still ongoing.

In September, Trump suggested he would prosecute Google if he won the presidency, arguing that the company systemically favored positive coverage of his challenger, Vice President Kamala Harris, over himself.

However, the following month, Trump seemed pleased when he recounted how Google CEO Sundar Pichai called him about an unprecedented campaign appearance at McDonald’s.

After Trump donning an apron and serving fries at a Pennsylvania McDonald’s went viral, the president-elect said Pichai made a phone call to praise the move.

“I actually got a call from Sundar … the head of Google, and he said, ‘Sir, I just want to tell you what you did with McDonald’s was one of the single biggest events we’ve ever had at Google,’” Trump said during an appearance on Joe Rogan’s podcast in October.

Pichai also made a congratulatory call to Trump after he won a second term in November. Pichai joined Amazon founder Jeff Bezos in meeting with Trump at his Mar-a-Lago home in December.

Google donated $285,000 to the 2016 and 2020 inaugurations, according to a Politico report.

Pichai is far from the only Big Tech giant making overtures to the Trump camp.

Meta and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg made headlines in recent months for his friendly relationship with Trump after the two men had a fractured relationship during Trump’s first term in office. Zuckerberg notably added Dana White, one of Trump’s closest friends, to his company’s board of directors this month. The Facebook CEO also stunned the country when he announced Tuesday morning Meta would no longer use “fact-checkers,” which had been harshly criticized by Trump.
