NextImg:Good riddance to Liz Magill: As a UPenn graduate, she was a total embarrassment

Liz Magill, the controversial president of the University of Pennsylvania, has tendered her resignation, according to an email sent out to the Penn community.

The move comes after Magill humiliated herself, and the school, during her congressional testimony last week regarding antisemitism on the Ivy League school's campus.

HOUSE VOTES TO REPEAL BIDEN'S INCOME-DRIVEN REPAYMENT REGULATION

“Dear Members of the Penn Community,” read an email from Scott Bok, Chairman of the Board of Trustees. “I write to share that President Liz Magill has voluntarily tendered her resignation. She will remain a tenured faculty member at Penn Carey Law.”

Bok said in the email that the school would “be in touch in the coming days to share plans for interim leadership of Penn.” He also announced that Magill would stay on “until an interim president is appointed.”

Magill released a statement that was included in the email.

“It has been my privilege to serve as President of this remarkable institution,” she said. “It has been an honor to work with our faculty, students, staff, alumni, and community members to advance Penn’s vital mission.”

Magill’s removal as president is not shocking in any way. She had been under fire for weeks for the way she handled the school’s response to the Hamas attacks. Her testimony before Congress last week only made matters worse after she refused to agree that calls for Jewish genocide constituted harassment. Many faculty, students, alumni, and donors panned her congressional testimony. It was a total embarrassment.

As a recent graduate of the school, I can say this is a positive step in the right direction. It was inexplicable that Magill could not condemn the horrific actions that were occurring on campus. For the first time since I graduated, I was embarrassed to be affiliated with the university. It is good to see the school rid itself of the unnecessary attention it has received because of poor decisions and a despicable adherence to radical left-wing political beliefs. Magill was too afraid to condemn the rampant antisemitism that had plagued Penn’s campus after the horrific Hamas attacks on Oct. 7.

Unfortunately, Magill’s words before Congress, or lack thereof, were indicative of the toxic left-wing beliefs that exist among the intelligentsia. It's a problem that is plaguing universities throughout the country and has been occurring long before Oct. 7. Hopefully, more will be done to combat this ideological corruption because much more work is needed to restore the reputation of the nation's universities as anything more than left-wing indoctrination centers that cost families hundreds of thousands of dollars in tuition.
