A man charged in connection with a series of infamous killings on Long Island pleaded not guilty to murder charges Friday.

Following his arrest late Thursday, Rex Heuermann was indicted by a grand jury for the killings of Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, and Amber Costello during a Friday court arraignment. He later pleaded not guilty to the charges, according to reports.

He is also considered the prime suspect in another murder, authorities said, according to the Associated Press. Friday's charges included three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of second-degree murder in connection to the three women.

Heuermann, who lived in Massapequa, New York, allegedly committed the serial murders near the town of Gilgo Beach over a decade ago. In 2010 and 2011, several of the victim’s bodies were found on a remote highway next to the beach.
