A giant "X" sign that had been placed on the headquarters of X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, has been taken down after multiple complaints were sent to the city.
The sign, which was placed on the social media platform's building as part of its rebranding as X, had been added over the weekend but was removed by Monday evening. The city's Department of Building Inspection said it received 24 complaints about the sign, according to a report.

Some of the concerns expressed in the complaints included the flashing lights the "X" would give off as well as the sign's structural safety.
The removal comes after San Francisco started investigating a potential violation over the sign being placed on the headquarters. Patrick Hannan, spokesman for the San Francisco Department of Building Inspection, said any letters or symbols placed on a building would require a permit to ensure “consistency with the historic nature of the building."
A week ago, city police stopped workers from removing the building's iconic bird logo on July 24, saying they had failed to tape off the sidewalk to protect civilians from any falling objects.

Musk's work on reformatting Twitter as X has had a bumpy road, with Bill George, an executive fellow at Harvard Business School, recently criticizing Musk, saying the updated version of the platform would be perfect for anyone who has "to write a case study on an example of a really poor takeover of an organization."

While multiple changes have been made to X over the past week, one change that will not be made is the location of the platform's headquarters, which will remain in San Francisco. Musk wrote on X that it is "important for more people to come to work in San Francisco."
