The Georgia state Senate has moved forward a bill that would separate the neighborhood of Buckhead from the city of Atlanta.
The two bills, which would create a separate city named Buckhead City, were approved by the state Senate's State and Local Government Operations Committee Monday. It passed the committee by a 4-3 margin and will proceed to the full chamber.

The neighborhood is seeking to separate from Atlanta over concerns regarding the city's crime and use of municipal funds.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) tweeted in support of the proposal, saying the decision should be an "easy one for a Republican controlled legislature."
The Republican controlled Georgia state legislature is voting today on allowing Buckhead to separate from the dangerous Democrat controlled city of Atlanta and be its own city.

"The Republican controlled Georgia state legislature is voting today on allowing Buckhead to separate from the dangerous Democrat controlled city of Atlanta and be its own city. A vote against Buckhead city is a vote FOR crime. A vote for Buckhead city is a vote FOR freedom," Greene wrote on Twitter.
Democrats opposed to the plan have concerns about what the separation would do to the remaining city, including debt obligations. They also have expressed concerns about the precedent it would set.

The bill will now go to the Rules Committee to be placed on the schedule for a full vote in the state Senate.
