As the 2024 presidential election approaches, the economy is on voters' minds. And the price at the pumps is one of the most direct pieces of evidence as to how the economy is faring.

The national average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas on Friday is $3.808, 5 cents more than the day before. The price was $3.818 a week ago, according to AAA.

Maryland
The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in Maryland is $3.628, above Thursday's price of $3.618. One week ago, the price was $3.650.
Virginia
The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in Virginia has dropped to $3.571, below yesterday's $3.577 price. Last week, the price was $3.603.
Washington, D.C.
The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in Washington, D.C., is down Friday at $3.896. Thursday's price was $3.901; last week, it was $3.962.
California
The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in California continued its steep climb Friday at $5.374, above Thursday's price of $5.359. Last week, the price was $5.298.
New York
In New York, the average price is $3.887, 1 cent less than it was on Thursday. Last week, the price was $3.898.

Texas
The average price in Texas on Friday is $3.378, above Thursday's price of $3.373. Last week, it was $3.408.
