National gas prices stayed the same on Thursday as compared with the day before. That fact is not likely to ease frustrations.

As the 2024 presidential election approaches, the economy is on voters' minds. And the price at the pumps is one of the most direct pieces of evidence as to how the economy is faring.

The national average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas on Thursday is $3.803, the same as the day before. The price was $3.825 a week ago, according to AAA.

Maryland

The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in Maryland is $3.618, above Wednesday's price of $3.612. One week ago, the price was $3.679.

Virginia

The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in Virginia has dropped to $3.577, below yesterday's $3.580 price. Last week, the price was 3.610.

Washington, D.C.

The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in Washington, D.C., is down Thursday at $3.901. Wednesday's price was $3.911, and last week, it was $3.965.

California

The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in California continues its steep climb Thursday at 5.359, above Wednesday's $5.347 price. Last week, the price was $5.296.

New York

In New York, the average price is $3.888, 1 cent less than it was on Wednesday. Last week, the price was $3.901.

The average price in Texas on Thursday is $3.373, down from Wednesday's price of $3.370. Last week, it was $3.420.
