


Gas prices hit the highest level for early September in over a decade on Tuesday. A day later, things did not look much better.
As the 2024 presidential election approaches, the economy is on voters' minds. And the price at the pumps is one of the most direct pieces of evidence as to how the economy is faring.

The national average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas on Wednesday is $3.803, below Tuesday's price of $3.811. The price was $3.827 a week ago, according to AAA.

Maryland
The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in Maryland is $3.612, below Tuesday's price of $3.621. One week ago, the price was $3.693.
Virginia
The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in Virginia has dropped to $3.580, below Tuesday's $3.587 price. Last week, the price was $3.615.
Washington, D.C.
The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in Washington, D.C., is slightly up Wednesday at $3.911. Tuesday's price was $3.910, and last week, it was $3.972.
California
The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in California continues its steep rise Wednesday at $5.347, above Tuesday's $5.326 price. Last week, the price was $5.294.
New York
In New York, the average price is $3.889, 1 cent less than it was on Tuesday. Last week, the price was $3.906.

The average price in Texas on Wednesday is $3.370, down from Tuesday's price of $3.380. Last week, it was $3.417.
