Gas prices continue their slow decline ahead of Labor Day weekend.

As the 2024 presidential election approaches, the economy is on voters' minds. And the price at the pumps is one of the most direct pieces of evidence as to how the economy is faring.

The national average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas on Friday is $3.818, below Thursday's price of $3.825. The price was $3.828 a week ago, according to AAA.

Maryland

The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in Maryland is $3.650, below Thursday's price of $3.679. One week ago, the price was $3.748.

Virginia

The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in Virginia has dropped to $3.603, below Thursday's $3.610 price. Last week, the price was $3.640.

Washington, D.C.

The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in Washington, D.C., is down Friday at $3.962. Thursday's price was $3.965, and last week, it was $3.983.

California

The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in California rises even as the national average goes down, with the price on Friday at $5.298, 2 cents up from Thursday. Last week, the price was $5.261.

New York

In New York, the average price is $3.898, 3 cents less than it was on Thursday. Last week, the price was $3.908.

The average price in Texas on Friday is $3.408, down from Thursday's price of $3.420. Last week, it was $3.430.
