Temperatures are not the only thing spiking across the country, with gas prices on a seemingly never-ending rise since April.

As the 2024 presidential election slowly comes clearer into view, the economy will be on the minds of most, if not all, voters. The price at the pumps is one of the most direct and day-to-day pieces of evidence as to how the economy is faring.

The national average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas on Monday is $3.757, up from $3.752 on Sunday and $3.596 a week ago, according to AAA.

Here is how certain states and areas fare in their prices at the pumps. To see how expensive gas is in each state, click here.

Maryland

The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in Maryland has soared above the national average to $3.764, up from $3.761 on Sunday. One week ago, it was significantly lower at $3.593.

Virginia

The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in Virginia is $3.599. On Sunday, the price was $3.590, and this time last week, it was much lower at $3.427.

Washington, D.C.

The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in Washington, D.C., is $3.913, up from $3.908 on Sunday. Last week, it was $3.787.

California

The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in California is significantly above the national average and has risen quickly to $4.998. On Sunday, the price was $4.989, and one week ago, it was $4.891.

New York

In New York, the average price is $3.817, up from $3.813 on Sunday. Last week, it was much lower at $3.701.

The average price in Texas is rising quickly but still sits below the national average at $3.439. On Sunday, the price was $3.436, and last week, it was $3.256.
