The majority of American households own a car, meaning most American households bear the responsibility of buying gas.

As the 2024 presidential election slowly comes clearer into view, the economy will be on the mind of most, if not all, voters. The price at the pumps is one of the most direct and day-to-day pieces of evidence as to how the economy is faring.

WHAT 2024 GOP CANDIDATES HAVE SAID ON TAX POLICY

As of Monday, the national average for a gallon of regular-grade gas is $3.582, up from $3.578 on Sunday and $3.540 the week before, according to AAA. The numbers over the past few days continue to suggest the prices nationally are on a steadily upward trajectory.

Maryland

The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in Maryland is $3.500, lower than the national average. The price was $3.498 the day before, and one week ago, the price was $3.465.

Virginia

The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in Virginia is $3.345, below the national average and the same price as the day before. Last week at this time, the price was $3.309.

Washington, D.C.

The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in Washington, D.C., is $3.652, higher than the national average. The day before, it was $3.647, and the week before, it was $3.636.

California

The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in California is well above the national average at $4.856. The day before, it was $4.851, and a week ago, it was $4.806.

New York

In New York, the current average is $3.707, compared with $3.706 the day before and $3.655 this time last week.
