The majority of American households own a car, and a major part of owning a car is managing the buying of gas.

As the 2024 presidential election slowly comes clearer into view, the economy will be on the mind of most, if not all, voters. The price at the pumps is one of the most direct and day-to-day pieces of evidence as to how the economy is faring.

HERE'S HOW LONG EVS HAVE TO BE DRIVEN BEFORE THEY SAVE EMISSIONS VERSUS GAS CARS

As of Wednesday, the national average for a gallon of regular-grade gas is $3.561, up from $3.543 on Tuesday and $3.532 the week before, according to AAA.

Maryland

The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in Maryland is $3.486, lower than the national average. The price was $3.478 the day before, and one week ago, the price was $3.451.

Virginia

The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in Virginia is $3.328, below the national average. The price is up from $3.314 the day before and $3.317 last week.

Washington, D.C.

The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in Washington, D.C., is $3.639, higher than the national average. The day before, it was $3.643, and the week before, it was $3.627.

California

The average price for a gallon of regular-grade gas in California is well above the national average at $4.811. It was just a tick lower the day before, at $4.809, and was $4.790 a week ago.

In New York, the current average is $3.673, compared with $3.659, which was the price on Tuesday as well as this time last week.

Texas

The average price in Texas sits well below the national average at $3.121, compared with $3.084 the day before and $3.077 the week before.
