Foxtrot Markets announced it was closing all of its locations by the end of Tuesday, marking an end to the high-end convenience store chain.

The closure comes less than six months after Foxtrot Markets merged with Dom’s Kitchen & Market, which is also closing its two locations. Foxtrot had 33 stores spread out across Chicago, Austin and Dallas, Texas, and Washington, D.C.

The sudden closures were also a surprise to Foxtrot’s employees, who say they were not notified in advance.

“We were just told that all stores were closed effective immediately, to lock up and leave,” one employee said. “Our store managers had no idea and were immediately laid off as well.”

“This decision has not been made lightly, and we understand the impact it will have on you, our loyal customers, as well as our dedicated team members. We want to express our sincerest gratitude for your support and patronage throughout the years. It has been our highest honor to elevate the everyday and create a remarkable shopping experience for people who love food as much as we do. It has been a privilege serving you and being a part of your everyday lives,” the company wrote in a statement on its website.

Foxtrot merged with Dom’s, a high-end grocery store chain, in November 2023 to form Outfox Hospitality. The closure of the two brands comes about a month after Rob Twyman became CEO on March 11.

Beyond closing all of its locations, the phone apps for Foxtrot and Dom’s have ceased operations, and the credits and member benefits for both chains will expire by the end of Tuesday.

The Washington Examiner has contacted Dom’s for comment.
