Mayor Eric Adams of New York has openly blamed President Joe Biden and his administration on several occasions over the border crisis as the city continues to take in an influx of asylum-seekers.
Adams has a track record of voicing his concerns about the Big Apple being overrun with immigrants who have illegally entered the United States, as well as the lack of resources to handle a large influx of people.

Southern border visit
Adams blasted the federal government's response to the border crisis at the beginning of the year when he visited El Paso, Texas, saying at the time that the city expected "more from our national leaders to address this issue in a real way” outside a church.
Adams urged Congress to create a long-term plan to manage immigration and give those coming into the U.S. better resources.
City Hall remarks
In April, Adams said the president and his administration "failed New York City on this issue” at a news conference at City Hall. New York's mayor also criticized the Biden administration's lack of response to the economic problems that the influx of illegal immigration has forced upon the city.
Adams’s condemnation of the White House comes amid reports that the mayor was cut from a list of Biden’s 2024 campaign advisory board members. The list was released May 10 and included high-profile Democratic politicians, which Adams confirmed once included him during a press conference announcing "The Road Forward," a blueprint to tackle the border crisis, adding he is “looking forward to it.”
Post Title 42
Once Title 42 expired on May 11, Adams showed no signs of slowing down his criticism toward the administration.
Fox interviewed Adams on May 16, asking the Democratic mayor where Biden is while New York struggles to navigate housing immigrants. “That’s a good question," Adams replied. "I think we all should be asking why this is happening to a city that was turning itself around and will continue to do so.”
Funding pleas to the White House
Adams said during an appearance on CBS's Face the Nation on Sunday that 70,000 immigrants who illegally crossed the border have come to New York City recently, noting 42,000 continue to be in the city's care.
"We've spent over $1 billion on the migrant crisis, and we're projected to spend close to $4.3 billion,” Adams said on CBS. “When you look at the price tag, $30 million [in federal funding] comes nowhere near what this city is paying for a national problem.”

Adams said he has had several conversations with the Federal Emergency Management Agency regarding finances and resources for New York City and “communications with the White House on several occasions” in an attempt to solve the crisis.
Adams's comments have drawn praise from some unlikely allies, with GOP leaders sharing the Democrat's apprehensions over the immigrants coming from the southern border. "The dam finally broke last week when Mayor Adams rightly blamed the border and migrant crisis on President Biden," Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) tweeted.
