Former Nevada Attorney General and key Trump ally Adam Laxalt is set to serve as the head of a super PAC supporting Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) as a potential 2024 presidential primary contest between the two men continues to simmer.

Laxalt will chair the Never Back Down super PAC, according to the Associated Press. The news comes amid tensions between former President Donald Trump and DeSantis, although DeSantis is not a declared 2024 presidential candidate.

DESANTIS PAC OFFERS TO PAY FOR TRUMP TO MOVE OUT OF FLORIDA

Trump has snagged several high-profile Florida congressional endorsements, but Laxalt joining Never Back Down marks a win for DeSantis.

Laxalt has a long-term history with both Trump and DeSantis.

DeSantis and Laxalt roomed together during naval officer training and served in Iraq, yet Laxalt would go on to chair Trump's 2020 presidential campaign in Nevada. Trump endorsed Laxalt during his Senate campaign to unseat Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) during the 2022 midterm elections but ultimately lost. Laxalt's loss handed Democrats control of the Senate though Republicans managed to take control of the House.

Never Back Down has continually championed DeSantis through million-dollar ad buys in key early primary states and recently offered to relocate Trump, who resides in Florida, to California.

DeSantis is Trump's biggest primary challenger, according to polling, although Trump continues to lead among GOP primary voters. A recent Wall Street Journal poll shows Trump dominating DeSantis by 13 percentage points, 51% to 38%.
